Camino 2.0 is here!

I'd like all the people active on this website and on the CaminoL10n mailing-list to raise a glass and toast to Camino 2!
You can find all the release details at http://caminobrowser.org but here I want to praise the CaminoL10n contributors, who did a terrific job in handling this major release.

Mozilla Camp Europe 2009 - A first for Caminol10n?

From the Mozilla wiki:
Mozilla Europe is organizing a large two-day Mozilla conference in Prague, Czech Republic, 3-4 Oct, 2009. The conference, officially called "Mozilla Camp Europe 2009", aims to bring together Mozillians (staff and community members) from 4 main areas - DEV, l10n, Advocacy and QA - with a special focus on Europe.

Caminol10n has never participated to events like this and Camino devs have organized small events only in the US, but I think there are certain facts to be considered this time.
First, we're coming from a period in which we consolidated and somehow grew, although you must read this with Camino scale in mind.
Then, there's the imminent Camino 2 release, which is expected to be exciting for us and possibly an audience of new users.
Finally, the location is quite accessible for our European contributors.

So I think there's a chance of having an interesting Caminol10n meetup alongside the Mozilla event, where we could also meet other Camino contributors/fans from Europe and nearby.

At the moment, it's just an idea, but if you find it interesting, please let me know - quickly - and I will see what we can do with Camino and Mozilla folks.

Camino 1.6.1 ML updated

As of June 5th, Camino 1.6.1 multilingual has been updated with fixes for Spanish and for a problem with the software update interface when running Camino in French. All current Camino 1.6.x users should receive the new version when checking for updates (manually or automatically). French users might find difficult to use the internal software update engine, because of the aforementioned UI glitch: if that happens, just download again the disk image from the Camino web site or from the link in the top-post on our Home page. The problem has now been fixed and won't affect future updates.

Camino 1.6b1 around the corner

The development team is preparing the release of a beta version of Camino 1.6 (or ✈ that is...).
You can find more information about how things are going in this post by Smokey:
http://www.ardisson.org/afkar/2008/01/14/camino-2008-week-2/
(you might have read it already, if you wisely subscribed to http://caminoplanet.org RSS feed, which also magically provides notice of posts from this very site)

Everyone here at Caminol10n is strongly encouraged to start working on Camino 1.6, and NOW is the right time to do it. You may download a "latest-1.6" nightly build and do your thing with AppleGlot.

Here you'll find the bug containing the finalized release notes for Camino 1.6b1.

You can do that even if you are new to Caminol10n; in this case I suggest you follow simple rules:
- Do that on a PPC box, with Panther or Tiger OS and XCode 2.5
- Find a fellow reviewer for your work; of course he should speak natively your language and have a Mac able to run Camino. Other than that, nothing is needed
- Read the preliminary AppleGlot tutorial

Thanks to everyone who'll be joining the Camino 1.6 effort!

Revisione Camino 1.6a1

Simplified Chinese installer available for testing

You can find the installer package provided by our new contributor William Xu, attached to this post. If you read Chinese (possibly as a native language), please download, install it on your copy of Camino and test the quality of the translation, reporting errors here as comments.

New ML package builder

For a very long time I've been the only one able o build the multilingual package of Camino. This is no longer true.
I recently posted a call on our mailing list asking for someone willing to learn the easy tasks required to build the package. Markus stepped up and we had a quick online meeting a few days ago. His work will begin effectively with Camino 1.0.6 and 1.5.1, because I will be on vacation for the first 3 weeks of August.

Thank you and welcome, Markus!

There is a status chart in Camino wiki to track the progress of the localization of 1.5: http://wiki.caminobrowser.org/Releases:1.5:l10n

Welcome to the new home of CaminoL10n

Welcome, again!
